Hi! My name is Jolie. I am a first year PhD student studying computer science at Yale University, where I am incredibly fortunately to be advised by Professor Arman Cohan.

My research interests are in interpretable natural language processing, including

• developing culturally-inclusive and explainable NLP to support domains such as the humanities
• understanding model generalization for different linguistic phenomena and multilingual settings

I am also passionate about computing education.

Before joining Yale, I completed my M.S. in Computer Science at the University of Washington, mentored by Kabir Ahuja and advised by Professor Yulia Tsvetkov. I also completed my BS in Computer Science, advised by Professor Annie T. Chen working on the Svoboda Diaries Project, and my BA in Linguistics, advised by Professor Shane Steinert-Threlkeld.
